Meet the Hive

Meet the hive

This is the Queen Bee, The Hive's CEO.
She's a no-nonsense leader that prefers straight talk and no red tape. But she isn't harsh – her employees praise her as a great boss because she's always fair and listens to what they have to say. Her open door policy sets an example for the rest of the company, encouraging open communication that fosters innovation.

Meet the hive

Meet our management team.
Clockwise: the Operations Manager, Production Manager, Project Coordinator, and Sales Manager. Together with the Queen, they run The Hive. They are effective leaders because they know the needs of their employees, but still support each other in making decisions and building the vision of the company. It's this combination of pragmatic and practical that allows The Hive to operate smoothly day-to-day.

Meet the hive

Our first employee of the month is a worker bee by the name of Ed.
As a factory supervisor, he's proud of his team's work and isn't afraid to work a little overtime to get the job done. Our second employee of the month is another worker bee - Jennifer. Part of our operations team, she can communicate what needs to be done clearly and effectively.

Although Ed and Jennifer are from two completely different departments, they are both equal contributors to the Hive's success. They're engaged in their work, offer solutions to managers and clearly understand the direction the company is going.

Hive

It's not about doing more

Every time a multi-tasker switches tasks, his or her productivity is reduced by 20-40%.

Lesson No. 1

It starts with
strong leadership.

There's a difference between leading and managing. Managing often means going “by the book,” but the book doesn't work for everyone. A leader does what's right not only for the business, but also for his or her employees. The Queen Bee is in touch with each aspect of The Hive, and takes the big picture into consideration when she makes a decision.

Lesson No. 2

Keep the lines of
communication open.

Communication is one of the cornerstones of increasing productivity. With open communication, tasks are done more efficiently and opportunities for innovation are identified sooner. Why? Because no one is afraid to speak up. The Hive's leadership team always leaves their doors open.

Lesson No. 3

Build a reliable
supply chain.

Creating and maintaining a supply chain you can depend on is key to keeping your business running smoothly. Build a lasting relationship with suppliers you trust, and together you can look for ways to eliminate bottlenecks. Using this method, The Hive has streamlined their process so that product is out in time, without wasting time.

Lesson No. 4

Invest in training
and development.

Knowledge is constantly changing. New discoveries are made, technology advances, and theories are revised. Training and development will help your business stay ahead of the curve, instead of trying to catch up. The Hive is always looking for ways to update skills.

Lesson No. 5

Look for
added value.

What else can you bring to the table? Look for ways to leverage every aspect of your organization. Get creative with operational measures, make use of an employee's hidden talent, or turn a byproduct into a product. But, remember to keep the focus on your main product – The Hive is still all about honey.

Lesson No. 6

Stay positive.

A positive workplace is a productive one. If you and your employees come in with a good attitude, it creates a better environment for everyone. Too much negativity can halt communication and stifle innovation. To boost morale, The Hive organizes company get-togethers and fun social events.
